Raphaëlle Orgeret
Raphaëlle Orgeret was introduced to Scottish dancing by her mother and attended Summer School for the first time in 1998. She was hooked and has not stopped dancing since. She passed her teacher's certificate in St. Andrews in 2008. She teaches her branch class in Lyon and a children's class there, too. For several years she coached a team for the Newcastle Festival comprising friends from across Europe and called it the International Team. She now coaches her Lyon Branch team for the competition.
Raphaëlle has taught at the RSCDS Summer School, the Winter School and Spring Fling as well as workshops across Europe. In 2018 she taught at the Australian Winter School, in 2019 at Asilomar, California, and in 2022 at TAC Summer School.
Lois New
Lois New has been dancing Scottish since college. She helped Gregor and Vickery Trinkhaus-Randall establish the RSCDS class that is now the Madison Branch while completing graduate work at U. of Wisconsin. She earned her prelim in May of 1981 and full certificate in 1986. Returning to her home state of NY, and with strong ties to her Madison friends who had returned to Boston, she joined the Boston Branch and started a class in Albany in 1982, traveling regularly to all the Branch events. Her class has been meeting regularly since 1982, and she gives full credit to the support she has always received from the Boston Branch and the members who have generously contributed time, advice, teaching, music and encouragement over the years. If anyone wonders why the Albany class meets in Halfmoon, NY, it's quite simple – Lois and her husband Cecil included a sprung wooden floor in their great room, which has served as the class location ever since. Their small but dedicated class meets weekly, hosts a Branch dance with live music every fall, and shares the joy of Scottish Country dancing with a dedicated following at the Saratoga Dance Festival every February.
Lois is happy to announce that she retired from the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation in May 2023 after 40 years of state service where she spent the past 15 years leading New York's Office of Climate Change in developing regional programs to reduce climate emissions in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. She returned half-time in June 2023 to continue this vital work. She is also fully occupied running her equine boarding facility where she breeds and trains Lusitanos in the French-Portuguese school of classical dressage. Her multiple passions are united in the name of her venture, Bon Accord Lusitanos.
